Crime and Punishment

I am one of those peope that find the trials in ArcheAge a lot of fun. When I entered the game for the first time I was just laughing at the trials and the arguments of the defendant versus the members of the jury. It gives an extra touch of fun to the game, especially if you have people that know how to roleplay.
Roleplay is a big thing in any MMO and I feel the twist of that within the trial system, it is quite spectacular. For the roleplayers among us, it is probably to be the juror and not the defendant, afterall - who wants to go to jail?
To become a jury member you need to have 0 infamy points in order to pick up the quest in Marianople or the equivalent faction city. Completing this quest chain will allow you to become a member of the jury. You will get automatically placed in a queue to enter a trial. You can see your status on your character sheet.
Once it is your time to enter the trial you will get a popup on your screen to see if you want to join the trial. If not then you will be put to the back of the queue. If you accept then you will be teleported to a courtroom with other members of the jury, an NPC judge and the defendant.
When you carry out a criminal act such as murder and uprooting your charcter will leave behind bloodstains on the ground. Other players are able to interact with these bloodstains to report your crimes. This is how you get crime points. Once you accumulate 50 crime points you will get a Wanted debuff.
While you are wanted you can be arrested by bounty hunters. Once you die, for any reason, you will be teleported to a jail cell. You will be given the option to accept a default prison sentance or you try your luck on trial in a court of law.
In the courtroom the members of jury will be able to review all of the reports made against you and decide whether to sentence you to prison or declare you innocent. If they find you innocent then you will be released back in to the world. Your crime points will be reset to 0 and you will get a reduction in your total infamy points. If you reach 3000 infamy points in total you will be kicked out of your faction and guild and will be exiled as a pirate but that is something for another post.
If you are found guilty then you will be given a prison sentenced that is decided by the players. The 5 members of the jury will be able to vote on the amount of time and the majority wins. After the trial you will be teleported to a prison cell and you must stay there for 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes have elapsed your prison cell door will open and you will have free roam of the prison. During your exploration you will encounter a lot of crates. These can be destroyed and they can give you items such as prison clothing and even a bucket you can wear on your head!
Now if you happen to be a particularly bad person and get a long sentence, such as 1000+ minutes as I have seen in the past, you can try to mount an escape from prison. To do this you can dig in the earth mounds located outside near the guard tower and football area. If you dig enough times you will eventually dig up a key.
You can use this key to unlock the guard tower next to the earth mounds. In there you will find a few chests that contain confiscated gliders. Take one with you and start climbing up the wooden beam to the top of the tower. From there you can equip the glider and use it to fly out to the sea in the name of freedom!
